Without further ado, here is BowtiedPassport’s article on how to become a proper Social Connector in the world today
After half a decade each in the military, and the corporate world, I've learned to understand the value of being a social connector.
Similar to a military leader that has to build and train a team for war, and similar to a corporate manager that has to plug and play great people to keep a company run, a social connector has the ability to identify people's strengths and skills, and link them with others who can benefit from their talents.
This role revolves around establishing robust relationships, effective networking, and recognizing opportunities where people can collaborate.
1. Build your network: Begin by expanding your network. Attend events, join groups, and establish connections with individuals on social media. The more people you know, the greater the opportunities for forging connections.
Another crucial aspect of being a social connector is the cultivation of strong relationships. Building trust, displaying reliability, and genuinely caring for others are all vital components of fostering meaningful connections. I make a conscientious effort to maintain contact with individuals in my network, whether through brief email check-ins or text messages. Moreover, I offer assistance whenever possible, whether it involves making introductions, providing guidance, or offering support.
One of the most gratifying aspects of being a social connector is observing the impact of my connections. I've had the pleasure of introducing individuals who have subsequently embarked on successful collaborative projects. Furthermore, I've witnessed people grow and develop their skills through the connections I've facilitated. Knowing that I played a small role in their accomplishments is remarkably fulfilling.
2. Active listening: Pay close attention to what people convey and remain receptive to clues about their skills and interests.
Active listening plays a pivotal role in effective social connecting. It entails paying close attention to what people express and discerning clues about their interests and skills. To gain insight into individuals' strengths, I frequently inquire about their hobbies, professions, and passions. Armed with this knowledge, I can strategize how they can contribute to my network and determine who would benefit from their skills.
3. Proactiveness: Don't wait for others to approach you. Take the initiative and reach out to individuals in your network who you believe could benefit from each other's skills.
4. Cultivate relationships: Nurturing strong relationships is key to successful social connecting. Make a concerted effort to keep in touch with people and extend assistance whenever feasible.
The most critical skill you need to hone as a social connector is the knack for identifying people's strengths and skills.
Every individual has unique talents and capabilities, and it's your responsibility to identify these attributes and connect individuals with others who can benefit from their abilities.
This can involve anything from introducing two people with similar skills to assembling a group of individuals with varied skills to complete a project
5. Patience: Building a robust network and becoming an effective social connector require time and perseverance. Exercise patience and persistence while continuously expanding your connections.
If you're interested in becoming a social connector, consider the following tips to get started:
1. Build your network: Begin by expanding your network. Attend events, join groups, and establish connections with individuals on social media. The more people you know, the greater the opportunities for forging connections.

The active listener part is important. I've seen a number of guys who get into game and then box themselves out of high end social circles since it seems like they just enjoy hearing the sound of their own voice and want to "alpha" their way around. Nothing they actually do is truly alpha; it's just crass and annoying. It's an overcorrection to their previous shy and timid self, but without common sense to moderate things.
