Becoming a Regular at Hotels
If you go to the same places over and over again for business or pleasure you should be staying in the same hotel
As far back as I can remember my dad would always stay in the same hotels everywhere we went
Either they were logistically sound and right in town or family friendly in a bunch of ways
He would go to lunch at the other hotels or go to eat out once a week there
The valet, front desk, restaurant staff, and every doorman knew him
I remember driving to one Hilton in particular every Sunday early so I could get experience behind the wheel and I was only 14 at the time
Everyone knew us because we came on the same time and day every week
They knew I was being taught to drive
I remember getting my first cup of coffee there
It felt like I was slowly growing up
Likewise, when we went to visit his brother and sister in LA, we always stayed in the Loews on Santa Monica beach
Since this was way before the internet, my mom and I went looking for a new hotel since he picked the holiday inn for whatever reason
The Loews first popped up and they had two rooms for us
He was more known here than at the Hilton as people from the concierge to the head of valet were always highly attentive, comping us gifts and nights
At the time I wanted to work in the hotel industry so he called the GM of any hotel we went to down
This guy came down without his tie and talked me out of the whole thing
He said he worked long hours and was married to the place
I didn’t want to have a lifestyle where I was on call and had to be highly attentive to any task
However, we got to tour lots of hotels because of this
This is the one thing I haven’t done fully in my adult life
I can go to club, bar, restaurant - alone or with my big connector friend and know people from the bouncer to the Manager
This happens all the time actually
However, I never really did this for hotels as they are quite big and I preach going to smaller venues so it’s easier to meet people
However, the staff of hotels has always taken kindly to me and my gf
I am going to try it out this next week before my birthday
Last time I stayed at this spot, I said their competitiors sucked and instantly got great treatment and it was Easter weekend
We had the hostess hanging with us the hwole night
Second night couldn’t get the waitress away from us talking about doomsday shit
This is with the place fucking jam packed
I am going to try to go to this particular hotel monthly and just meet as many of the staff as possible
It’s not about getting anything for free, but having built in people to chat with no matter where I am in the resort
I’m extroverted af and like to keep talking with people and enter a flow state
I know for a fact you don’t even need to go monthly based on how my dad used to do it when we travelled
Even now just talking to people properly and acknowledging them goes a long way
I will probably tip everyone I can with cash, just for a boost
Cash is king in any industry but you don’t need it
You just need to listen to people and talk to them
People who work in hotels meet all sorts of people and are well connected
They sometimes have to stay sober or get fired
Unlike in the nightlife industry
If you have a wife, gf, or want to bring a girl with you to a hotel, this also ups your value and is a good multiplier
Cash, charisma, and women always go far with dealing with people
I highly encourage you to try this as hotels are the starting point for travellers and they send them to all the right places after since they are connected
Easy to figure out what to do by talking with the concierge in terms of anything you like
Covid messed up lots of venues
Right now I look for the best places for food, rooms, and service
If the food and service is off I never go back
It means it will never be good again
I want to see improvement at spots after covid
There are certain restaurants, lounges, and hotels that are just as good if not better since covid
I try not to venture much from these places
What’s awesome about doing this anywhere is the minute you don’t want to go back - a couple of months go by and the people recognize you and are even more thrilled to see you
I already have my good friends
I look for the good in everything else
As should you
Best,
